Yesterday’s studio session was full of laughter, cuddles, and a few biscuit bribes which, let’s be honest, is exactly how family photos should be.
I had this lovely family in the studio for one of my seasonal mini shoots, and it was a perfect reminder of why I love photographing families. There’s nothing quite like capturing the little glances, the giggles, and those blink-and-you-miss-it moments between siblings.

Tips to for planning your shoot
If you’re thinking about booking a shoot (or you’ve already got one coming up), here are a few tips to help everything go smoothly:
1. Keep outfits simple and neutral
Soft, neutral colours photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your faces and the connection between you. Think creams, beige, soft greys and muted tones. You don’t need to match exactly just aim for colours that complement each other.
2. Don’t overthink it
I know it’s easy to spiral into outfit planning, nap timings or worrying whether the kids will cooperate. But honestly? Some of the best photos happen in the chaos. Come as you are. I’ve seen it all and I promise we’ll get lovely photos regardless.
3. Bring a few favourites
If your child has a beloved toy or snack that helps them feel comfortable, bring it along. It might not make it into the final photo but it can make a big difference behind the scenes.
4. Make it fun
The best sessions feel more like playtime than posing. I’ll give gentle direction where needed but the goal is to capture real smiles and genuine connection not stiff, formal portraits.
5. Trust the process
You don’t need to do anything special. You just need to show up. I’ll guide you through everything from where to stand to how to sit together in a way that feels natural and looks great on camera.
